Day 1
Here we have lovely Monty who is nervous around new people. Day 1 with me you can see he was very nervous around me - too nervous to even take a treat out of my hand. He was also keeping his distance from the other dogs in the group. He is showing signs of stress such as panting, tucked tail and being hyper-aware of his surroundings. I kept him on my longest long line to give him space but also for his safety incase he decided to bolt.
Day 6
Here is that same Monty after his 6th walk with me. He is now on a shorter and lighter long line and responding really well to some whistle training. The trust is getting there but I wanted to be extra cautious incase he suddely got nervous around me again and didn't want to come back. As you can see he is so much happier around me and the other dogs and trusts me enough to take treats from my hand! Look at that wagging tail!
Day 8
Here is Monty now! After just 8 walks with me he is permanently off the long line. Here you can see him check in with me before going off to play with his new friends! Such a confident and happy boy compared to day one!
If you have a nervous dog I always stay patient with them until they have built trust with me. Well done Monty!
